Preparing for your baby's first photo session

January 7, 2020

You are having your baby soon! How exciting it is. You made the list of what you need to buy for the baby, you did your research on car seats and strollers, you had a baby shower. Now it is one of the most important things to do is to find a good and reliable newborn photographer! It is very important that the photographer you choose is trained in newborn safety, insured and 'knows what he/she is doing'.

Sasha Weber photography based in New Jersey is trained and insured. Sasha Weber comes to your house too.

After you have your baby it is time to get ready for a photoshoot!

I put together helpful tips on how to prepare for that first session.

TIP 1. Do not wait to contact your photographer to schedule a session. As soon as you had your baby email me. Newborn sessions are usually done when the baby is between 5-14 days. They are usually sleepy during that time and don't mind being posed. If you missed that window do not worry! Contact me.

TIP 2.If you bottle feed. Do not introduce new formula before the session because it might upset your baby's tummy. If you breastfeed it is best if you do not eat anything new before the session because it might upset your baby's tummy.

TIP 3. Please, feed the baby right before I arrive to your house or feed the baby when you arrive to my in home studio in Morris County New Jersey. Once your baby eats he/she will fall asleep and that means we''ll  able to capture beautiful images.  We want a newborn to sleep through the session.

TIP 4. Newborn like to be warm. Make sure your house is toasty :) Your baby mostly be naked or wrapped or wearing light outfits and we do not want it to be cold in the house. Usually  75-80 F is the best.

TIP 5. If you have other young children I would suggest bringing their favorite snack to bribe them in case they don't want to take pictures. I usually photograph siblings and a newborn first and then dad takes the kiddos out to the park or frozen yogurt place so we could pay attention only to the newborn.

TIP 6. Props. We discuss colors, props before the session .I have pretty much everything we need for the session. All the wraps, blankets, clothes are washed.

TIP 7. Just relax and enjoy! Over the years I noticed that the more relaxed parents are the better their baby cooperates during the session :)
